The primary purpose of the Laboratory Technician Microbiology position is to provide a variety of laboratory support services of routine and a complex nature, under the direction of the Chief Technologist, Section Head, or Professional Staff. Maintains inventory of media, gas tanks and maintains QC logs of compliance and non-compliance media. Sets up bacteriology cultures, Microscan panels, loads Bactec blood culture bottles into Bactec FX. Autoclaves, performs spore tests, handles hazardous chemical waste, and contacts EOHSS for pickup of chemical waste.
QualificationsMinimum of Associate’s Degree in a Hospital laboratory related science required. Three (3) years of related laboratory experience is preferred. One (1) year of which should be in a health care environment is preferred. Ability to read, write, speak and understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform job duties. Additional years of related lab experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
