Beyonce's Sister Solange's Infamous Fight With Jay Z Inside Elevator During 2014 Met Gala Afterparty (2024)

Beyonce Giselle Knowles Carter, aka Beyonce, is undeniably the reigning queen of pop and one of those artists millions have loved over the years. Apart from her immensely successful professional life, the 42-year-old’s personal life also occasionally comes under the limelight. For those who don’t know, Beyonce has been married to Jay-Z for around 16 years now. Moreover, they dated for a few years before taking the step in their relationship in 2008.

However, Beyonce’s marriage with Jay-Z was not all hunky dory. Their relationship hit its lowest when reports of the latter’s alleged infidelity surfaced in the media. This even led to a huge and ugly fight between Beyonce’s sister,Solange and Jay-Z in an elevator, which the entire world witnessed.

When Beyonce’s sister, Solange hit Jay Z inside an elevator

Beyonce and Jay-Z first met in the early 2000s for a professional collaboration and gradually fell for each other. They got married in an intimate ceremony and later welcomed their first child, Blue Ivy Carter in 2012. However, their marriage hit a rough patch when Beyonce's sister, Solange, reportedly found out about her brother-in-law's infidelity.

During the 2014 Met Gala, a video from the afterparty went berserk viral. In the clip, which was shared by TMZ,Solange was first seen hurling abuse at Jay Z, and then she resorted to physical abuse. Their fight escalated so much that a security guard had to intervene to stop the brawl. It is worth noting that Beyonce was in the same elevator and she never once tried to stop the physical altercation between her sister and husband. To date, no one knows the real reason behind their fight, but people speculate that Solange fought with Jay Z as he cheated on her sister. Days after the incident, the three shared a joint statement, saying:

“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other, and we have moved forward as a united family. The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behaviour throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day, families have problems, and we're no different. We love each other, and above all, we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”

Beyonce and Jay Z confirmed the latter’s infidelity via their respective music albums

While Beyonce and Jay Z remained tight-lipped for the longest over the reports of the latter’s infidelity, the duo released music albums, which seemingly validated the allegations of cheating. In 2016, Beyonce released her critically acclaimed album, Lemonade, whose lyrics made people believe that her husband had indeed cheated on her. Meanwhile, Beyonce and Jay Z announced that they were going to become parents for the second time in February 2017. They welcomed twins, Rumi and Sir Carter, on June 13, 2017.

In June 2017, Jay Z’s album, 4:44 confirmed that he was unfaithful to his wife of nine years, admitted his mistakes and apologised for his actions in the album's title track. Moreover, in an interview with The New York Times Style Magazine in November 2017, the rapper admitted to his infidelity and explained how he worked with his wife, Beyonce, to repair their marriage. He said:

“You know, most people walk away, and like divorce rate is like 50 percent or something 'cause most people can't see themselves. The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone's face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself. So, you know, most people don't want to do that. You don't want to look inside yourself. And so, you walk away.”
